Mohair

The name “Angora Goat” comes from the ancient city of Angora, now Ankara, in Central Anatolia, where white, silky Mohair goats were bred, originally from Central Asia. From Turkey, goats were sent to South Africa and the United States, where farming expanded significantly. Shearing occurs every six months as the fiber grows quickly: 2 cm per month in winter and 2.5 cm in summer. Fiber diameter varies with age, from superfine kids (<23 microns) to adults (36-40 microns). Mohair is known for its softness and brilliance, ideal for lightweight fabrics, knitwear, scarves, and coats. It is also used in luxury curtains and carpets due to its resilience and stain resistance.
