Guanaco

The Guanaco is a camelid found in Patagonia and southern regions of South America. It is larger than the vicuña and well adapted to altitudes up to 4000 meters. Guanaco wool is shorn every two years, yielding about 700-900 grams per animal. The wool is fine, measuring 15-17 microns, making it a valuable textile material. Guanacos are now protected, and their fiber is regulated by CITES to prevent overexploitation.
